WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th January, 2019) US President Donald Trump called on Saturday reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had begun investigating whether he was working secretly for Russia "insulting."
The New York Times earlier reported, citing law enforcement sources and other informed sources, reported that the FBI began to check back in 2017 whether Trump could secretly work for Russia against his country. According to the newspaper, the FBI did not immediately decide to start the probe, but after Trump fired James Comey, it triggered the bureau to start checks. At the same time, the newspaper noted that there was no publicly presented evidence that the US president could secretly contact with Russian officials or receive instructions from them.
"I think it is the most insulting article I've ever had read. ... I fired James Comey ... because he is a terrible liar and he did a terrible job as the FBI Director," Trump said in an interview with Fox news.
Trump also insisted that he behaved in the most tough manner toward Russia than any US president in the modern history.
There are several parallel Russia-related investigations being conducted in the United States, including about the alleged interference of Russia in the 2016 US presidential election and Trump's alleged "collusion with Russia."
