Trump, Columbian President Discuss Venezuela Crisis During Meeting at UNGA - White House

US President Donald Trump and Colombian President Ivan Duque Marquez in a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly discussed energy security and the situation in Venezuela, the White House said in a press release on Tuesday.

"Trump and President Ivan Duque Marquez of Colombia discussed ... energy security," the release said.

"The two leaders also discussed ways the two countries will work together to bring about the restoration of democracy in Venezuela."

Earlier in the day, the United States imposed a new set of sanctions on Venezuela targeting President Nicolas Maduro's wife and his top officials, including the country's vice president and the minister of defense.

In addition, Trump and Duque exchanged views on combating drug trafficking and organized crime and reiterated shared commitment to partner on these issues, the release added.
