WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th September, 2018) US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania honored the victims of Flight 93 in their commemoration of the attacks of September 11, 2001 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

The ceremony, along with similar ones in New York City and Washington, DC, marked the 17th anniversary of the attacks.

The Flight 93 memorial honors the 40 passengers and crew members who fought back against the terrorist hijackers who planned to crash the airplane into the US Capitol in Washington, DC, but instead ended up going down in a field in rural Pennsylvania.

"A piece of America's heart is buried on these grounds, but in its place has grown a new resolve to live our lives with the same grace and courage as the heroes of Flight 93," Trump said.

Trump added that the field is now a message to the world and that American will never submit to tyranny.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed on September 11, 2001. In addition to those killed in Pennsylvania, members of the al-Qaeda terror group (outlawed in Russia) hijacked commercial airplanes and crashed two into the World Trade Towers in New York City and another into the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
