Trump Offers Condolences to Families of Deceased Argentine Submarine Crew

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended his condolences to the families of the crew members of the recently found Argentine submarine ARA San Juan, which disappeared just over a year ago off the country's coast.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th November, 2018) US President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended his condolences to the families of the crew members of the recently found Argentine submarine ARA San Juan, which disappeared just over a year ago off the country's coast.

The submarine was discovered on November 16 at a depth of around 907 meters (2,975 feet), deformed and with signs of an explosion.

"I hope the discovery and eventual recovery of the Argentine submarine San Juan brings needed closure to the wonderful families of those brave missing sailors," Trump said via his official Twitter feed.

The president also said that he would like to learn more about the incident from his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri during the upcoming G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, which is set to take place between November 30 and December 1.

"I look forward to hearing more from my friend President @MauricioMacri in Argentina later this month," Trump added.

The submarine and its 44-member crew went missing in mid-November 2017 after reporting a technical malfunction. The rescue operation had been stopped just over two weeks after the submarine disappeared, but the Argentine authorities pledged that the search for the submarine itself would continue. Following the discovery of the watercraft, Macri declared a three-day mourning period for the crew.
