PITTSBURGH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -22nd Sep,2016) : Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump Thursday appeared to blame drug use in the inner cities for the violent protests rocking Charlotte, North Carolina.
"And if you're not aware, drugs are a very, very big factor in what you're watching on television at night," Trump ad libbed during a speech to a group of shale gas producers. Protests erupted in Charlotte Tuesday after police shot and killed a 43-year-old African-American man who they said was armed with a handgun and posed a threat.
Keith Lamont Scott's family and neighbors said that the victim was carrying a book -- not a gun -- and had been waiting for a school bus to drop off his young son.
Trump, who was campaigning in swing states Pennsylvania and Ohio Thursday, commented on the situation in Charlotte as he began his remarks in Pittsburgh, calling for "unity and the spirit of togetherness" and an end to violence against police officers.
While recognizing the right to peaceful protest, Trump said: "There is no right to engage in violent disruption or to threaten the peace and safety of others."
