WASHINGTON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Dec, 2018 ) :US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his plan to have a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as he met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on the sidelines of a Group of 20 summit in Argentina Friday, the White House said.
Trump has said he expects to meet with Kim early next year despite stalled negotiations on dismantling the North's nuclear weapons program.
The two met in Singapore in June and agreed to work toward "complete" denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in exchange for unspecified security guarantees from the U.S.
"President Trump and President Moon reaffirmed their commitment to achieve the final, fully verified denuclearization of the DPRK," the White House said in a readout, referring to the North by its formal name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
"President Trump discussed his intention to have a second U.S.-DPRK summit," it said, adding that the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to closely coordinate on next steps.
They also "agreed on the importance of maintaining vigorous enforcement of existing sanctions to ensure the DPRK understands that denuclearization is the only path to economic prosperity and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula."
