Trump Says To Hold 'Alternative' Event Amid Canceled State Of Union Address

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) US President Donald Trump said he would do an alternative event instead of the traditional State of the Union Address to Congress that was canceled earlier in the day.

Earlier on Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter to Trump she would not allow the chamber to host his State of the Union Address until the government shutdown has ended.

Trump reacted that he was not surprised but called her decision to cancel the address "a disgrace."

"It's a sad thing for our country. We'll do so something in the alternative," Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, media reports suggested that Trump is preparing two state of the union speeches, one in case he delivers his address in Congress and the other if he delivers it at a rally outside of Washington, DC.
