WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 04th April, 2019) US President Donald Trump told reporters on Thursday that the US-China trade talks are moving ahead very well.
"Trade is coming along well," Trump said. "It's going very well."
Earlier on Thursday, Trump said he will name the date of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping when he meets at the White House later today with Chinese Vice Premeir Liu He, the Wall Street Journal reported citing an unidentified administration official.
China and the United States have been in a trade dispute since last June, when Trump announced the United States would subject $50 billion worth of Chinese goods to 25 percent tariffs in a bid to fix the US-Chinese trade deficit.
Since then, the two countries have exchanged several rounds of trade tariffs.
China and the United States are trying to work out a mutually acceptable trade agreement that would put an end to an almost year-long tariff war between the world's largest economies. Both Beijing and Washington have cited progress in the talks, and Trump even postponed the tariff spike that was scheduled to go into effect on March 1.
On Sunday, the Chinese Finance Ministry announced that Beijing has decided to prolong the suspension of increased tariffs on US-made vehicles and automobile parts for a yet unspecified period of time starting from April 1.
