Trump Says US May Not Impose New Tariffs On China

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington might not impose new tariffs on Chinese goods if Beijing meets Washington's remaining demands in ongoing trade talks.
"We put on tariffs on $250 billion (worth of goods) and we have another $267 billion to go, if we want to. We may not have to do that," Trump told reporters at the White House, adding that "China wants to make a deal."
Trump said China sent the US a list of things it would be willing to do to resolve the trade dispute between the two countries.
"They sent a list of things that they're willing to do, which was a large list, and it's just not acceptable to me yet," Trump said, though he added that on four or five outstanding issues remain.
Trump said the list included 142 items, but complained that four or five "big things" were left out.
"I think we'll probably get them too," he added.
China and the United States became embroiled in a major trade spat after President Donald Trump unveiled new steel and aluminum import duties in March. The tensions further escalated in late May when Washington announced that $50 billion worth of Chinese goods would be subject to 25 percent tariffs, prompting a harsh retaliation from Beijing.
Since then, the Trump administration has imposed tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese goods, prompting China to respond by imposing reciprocal tariffs.
