Trump Says Wants to Discuss Trade, Anti-Terror Efforts With Macron on Sidelines of UNGA

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th September, 2018) US President Donald Trump said before the meeting with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly that he wanted to discuss the fight against terrorism as well as trade issues.

"We have a lot of trade and we are discussing trade, we will be discussing it today. We will be discussing military and defense. Terrorism is a big subject that we are always talking about," Trump said on Monday.

He also pointed out that Washington and Paris had good bilateral relations.

Macron has also expressed a wish to discuss issues related to anti-terrorism efforts.

"I think terrorism, defense and the situation in the middle East as well is something we have and we want to fix and we want to work together," Macron said.

The United States and France are conducting similar policy in the Middle East with both countries taking part in a military operation in Syria, which is neither authorized by the UN Security Council nor requested by the legitimate Syrian government. At the same time Washington and Paris have significant differences on trade issues with France as well as other EU countries criticizing the US decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
