Trump Says Will 'Take a Look' at Turkey Sanctions After Pastor Freed

US President Donald Trump dodged a question from reporters on Saturday about whether Washington would lift sanctions on Ankara following the release of pastor Andrew Brunson by a Turkish court.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th October, 2018) US President Donald Trump dodged a question from reporters on Saturday about whether Washington would lift sanctions on Ankara following the release of pastor Andrew Brunson by a Turkish court.

"We were very tough on Turkey and we will take a look. There was absolutely no deal made," he said during the cleric's reception in the Oval Office.

"We feel much different about Turkey today than we did yesterday. I think we have a chance of really becoming much closer to Turkey and maybe even having a very good relationship," he went on to say.

The United States doubled tariffs this summer on Turkish metal imports after demands to release the pastor who was imprisoned in the country for two years over his alleged ties to plotters of the 2016 failed coup.
