Trump to announce withdrawal from Paris climate deal: US official

WASHINGTON, June 1, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 01st Jun, 2017 ) - Donald Trump will on Thursday announce plans to withdraw from the Paris climate deal, a US official told AFP, signalling a policy shift with wide-ranging repercussions for the climate and America's ties with its allies.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said that Trump will confirm America's "withdrawal" during a statement in the White House Rose Garden set to begin at 1900 GMT. Trump is set to argue that the agreement is a bad deal for Americans.

The White House has told allies it was signed by President Barack Obama out of "desperation." Although details and the timeframe are still unclear, Trump will argue he is keeping a campaign promise to "put American workers first."
