US voter approval of President Donald Trump's performance and office fell by four percentage points in February following a surge upward in the previous month, a Gallup poll showed on Thursday
"After a strong February, President Donald Trump's job approval rating has dipped four percentage points, to 39 percent, matching his rating from December at the start of the 35-day partial government shutdown," Gallup said in a press release summarizing the poll.
The latest poll was conducted March 1-10, just after Trump's second denuclearization summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un failed to produce an agreement, the release said.
At the same time, special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 U.
S. presidential election was front and center as Trump's former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, provided potentially incriminating evidence during testimony on Capitol Hill, the report added.
Trump's personal high rating of 45 percent has been achieved twice in his presidency - in the first week of his term and in June 2018, after his first meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to the release.
His lowest rating, 35 percent, was seen several times throughout 2017, his first year in office, the release said.
Meanwhile, approval of Trump remains sharply polarized, with 90 percent of Republicans, 33 percent of independents and 4 percent of Democrats expressing approval, the poll revealed.
