MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) Turkish forces on Thursday apprehended more than 150 irregular migrants of Algerian, Moroccan, Palestinian and Syrian origin in a number of provinces, local media reported citing security sources.
As many as 117 migrants were held in the western Edirne province, and 36 others were apprehended while traveling on a passenger bus in the central province of Kayseri, according to the Anadolu news agency.
Turkey has been one of the main routes for refugees trying to cross to Europe, especially since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria back in 2011.
In 2018, about 268,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey, Anadolu reported citing the Turkish Interior Ministry.
