ANKARA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The Turkish authorities detained one person over suspected links to a Monday attack on the US Embassy in Ankara, local media reported.
At 5:30 a.m. local time (02:30 GMT), six shots were fired at the US embassy from a white car passing by. There have been no victims.
The suspect is being questioned by the police, Anadolu news agency reported, citing a source.
Ankara condemns the attack, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalın said.
The incident occurred amid the rising tensions between the United States and Turkey.
The US Treasury has recently introduced sanctions against two Turkish ministers over the arrest of US pastor Andrew Brunson. The pastor has been detained in Turkey since 2016 over his alleged ties to a terrorist organization. Washington has been urging Turkey to release Brunson.
Following the introduction of the Treasury sanctions, US President Donald Trump said in early August that he had authorized increased tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Turkey. The announcement led to a sharp drop of the Turkish lira. In response, Ankara raised levies on 22 types of US goods.
