Turkey's Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul said on Thursday that the Turkish authorities are "deeply, successfully" investigating disappearance of Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi and will announce the findings soon.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) Turkey's Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul said on Thursday that the Turkish authorities are "deeply, successfully" investigating disappearance of Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi and will announce the findings soon.
"results are expected to come out soon ... whatever the international law requires will be done, " Gul told the Anadolu news agency, referring to Khashoggi's case.
Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist known for his criticism of Saudi Arabia's policies, went missing on October 2. He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The Washington Post reported that Turkey had informed US officials that it had audio and video recordings allegedly proving that the journalist had been murdered in the Saudi consulate, while Riyadh has denied any involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance, saying that the journalist went missing after leaving the consulate building.
On Wednesday, media reported that the Turkish police had searched the residence of the Saudi consul general in Istanbul as part of the probe into the incident.
The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Turkish authorities had identified by name five out of 15 suspects allegedly involved in Khashoggi's murder, four of whom reportedly have ties to the Saudi government. One of them has reportedly died in a car accident.
