The Turkish authorities have not shared the audio materials concerning the case of vanished Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi with any other country, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday, refuting relevant media reports.
ANKARA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th October, 2018) The Turkish authorities have not shared the audio materials concerning the case of vanished Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi with any other country, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday, refuting relevant media reports.
On Thursday, the ABC news broadcaster said that US State Secretary Mike Pompeo had allegedly listened to the recording of the journalist's murder inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and was given the audio materials' transcription during his meetings in Turkey on Wednesday. The US State Department has refuted the reports.
"There is some information we have already obtained in the course of the investigation into the Saudi journalist's case. We will share the findings of the investigation with the world. Turkey has not handed over the audio materials concerning the case to anyone," Cavusoglu said as quoted by the NTV channel.
Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, went missing on October 2.
He was last seen entering the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul where he went to receive papers he needed to remarry. Turkey has expressed concerns that Khashoggi could have been murdered inside the building, while the Saudi government has denied involvement in the case, claiming that the journalist disappeared after he left the consulate.
According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Arabia should prove its non-involvement in the journalist's disappearance. The Turkish president also said that he considered Riyadh's comments in connection to the case unconvincing.
Earlier in October, Ankara had received the permission from Riyadh to search the consulate's building as part of the probe into the case. According to the Turkish media, during the first inspection in the Saudi consulate, which lasted for over 9 hours, the Turkish police have found evidence suggesting that Khashoggi was killed.
