MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th September, 2018) Turkish police arrested on Tuesday at least seven people suspected of having links to the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) in the country's capital of Istanbul, local media reported.
The arrested individuals have been allegedly trying to recruit new members to the IS as well as to promulgate the terrorist group's ideology, the Anadolu news agency reported, citing security officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The police also accused the suspects of soliciting money and providing financial support to the families of the detained IS militants.
While the IS is operating mainly in Iraq and Syria, the neighboring Turkey has long been suffering from the IS attacks. Local security forces are carrying out operations set to put an end to the IS threat.
