London, Sept 22 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Sep, 2021 ) :Detectives on Wednesday said they had made two more arrests in connection with the death of a journalist who was killed while covering a riot in Northern Ireland.
The pair, aged 24 and 29, were detained under the Terrorism Act in the Londonderry area of the British province as part of the probe into the death of Lyra McKee in April 2019.
"They will be interviewed later," the Police Service of Northern Ireland said in a statement.
McKee, 29, was shot in the head while standing near a police vehicle, as dissident pro-Ireland republicans clashed with officers in the city, which is also known as Derry.
The New IRA group claimed responsibility for her death and said she was "tragically killed while standing beside enemy forces".
The killing provoked a widespread outcry across Northern Ireland and led to calls for politicians to restore the province's then-suspended power-sharing government.
Two other men were given bail last Friday when they appeared in court charged with murdering McKee, as well as a string of other alleged offences related to the riot.
Another man has previously been charged with the reporter's murder.
