UK Prime Minister Says New Brexit Secretary to Be Appointed in Coming Days

UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Friday she had not appointed a new Brexit secretary yet, following the resignation of Dominic Raab, but would do it in a few day

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th November, 2018) UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Friday she had not appointed a new Brexit secretary yet, following the resignation of Dominic Raab, but would do it in a few days.

Raab said Thursday he would step down as he could not support the Brexit deal backed by the UK cabinet a day earlier.

"I haven't appointed a new Brexit secretary yet, but obviously I will be doing that over the course of the next days," May told the LBC broadcaster.

The draft deal agreed by EU and UK negotiators has provoked several resignations in May's government and met with criticism in the House of Commons. One of the stumbling blocks appeared to be the so-called Irish border backstop, a EU-UK customs arrangement that would be launched if London and Brussels failed to agree on all terms of their future relationship by the end of the transition period.
