UK State-Funded Institute Submitted 8 Complaints Against RT To UK's Ofcom - Leaked Papers
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) Eight complaints against the RT broadcaster were submitted to the UK Office of Communications (Ofcom) by the state-funded Institute for Statecraft in March 2016, the latter's documents published on Friday by hackers said.
On Thursday, Ofcom said that RT had breached the regulator's broadcast rules by failing to provide impartial news coverage in seven programs aired in March and April, a decision at which RT, in turn, has expressed its disappointment. After that the Russian watchdog Roskomnadzor initiated an inspection of the BBC World News channel in Russia as well as BBC digital editions to verify the media's compliance with the Russian law.
"24 March : eight complaints forwarded to Ofcom on RT's failure to ensure due impartiality with request to launch a formal investigation," the institute's production timetable March-June 2016 said.
The complaints were prepared by an employee of the Institute for Statecraft, Ben Nimmo, who is in charge of the Integrity Initiative project.
On November 23, Anonymous released the first batch of documents related to the Integrity Initiative project, saying that the program, launched in 2015, was funded by the UK government. The hacktivist group described it as a "large-scale information secret service" created by London to "counteract Russian propaganda." The US State Department, NATO and Facebook are mentioned among the organizations and institutions that have allocated grants to the project.
