MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th January, 2019) The Ukrainian armed forces have registered a total of 16 truce breaches committed by the Donbas militia in the region over the past 24 hours, the press service of Ukraine's Joint Forces Operation said in a statement on Sunday, adding that no casualties have been recorded among the security personnel.
According to the statement, published on the official Facebook page of the Joint Forces Operation, the Donbas militia "have breached the ceasefire 16 times" over the past 24 hours. No casualties have been registered among the Ukrainian soldiers, the press service noted.
The armed conflict in the east of Ukraine was triggered in 2014, after the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics announced their independence from Ukraine, refusing to recognize the new government, which seized power after the overthrow of then-President Viktor Yanukovych.
In 2015, Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany signed the so-called Minsk ceasefire agreements, but both Kiev and Donbas regularly accuse each other of ceasefire violations.
