Ukrainian Foreign Minister Confirms Meeting With Hungarian Counterpart in Warsaw Next Week

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin confirmed on Wednesday that he would hold a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto next week during the Warsaw Security Forum (WSF), set to be held in the Polish capital on October 24-25.

KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin confirmed on Wednesday that he would hold a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto next week during the Warsaw Security Forum (WSF), set to be held in the Polish capital on October 24-25.

On Monday, Klimkin held a meeting with Szijjarto on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership Foreign Ministers meeting in Luxembourg. They have agreed to launch consular consultations, and Klimkin said after the meeting that talks on the date of the consultations were currently underway. He also said that it had been agreed to meet at the WSF.

"We will meet again next week at the Warsaw Security Forum, and will see how to move on. The dialogue continues, this is a difficult dialogue.

But we will consistently protect our interests in Zakarpattia," Klimkin said, as broadcast by Ukrainian tv channels.

The Ukrainian-Hungarian relations deteriorated over the Ukrainian education law, enacted in September 2017 and restricting the national minority's children right to study in their native languages. In September, tensions escalated further over reports that the Ukrainian consulate in Beherove, a city located in the western Ukrainian Zakarpattia region, near the Hungarian border, issued Hungarian passports for Ukrainian citizens although Ukraine does not recognize dual citizenship. The move prompted Kiev to expel the Hungarian consul from the country, and Hungary retaliated with the same measure.
