The majority of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church's clergy will remain faithful to the canonical church, though there might be few isolated cases of joining the Ukrainian non-canonical church, Alexander Volkov, the spokesman for Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, said on Monday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd October, 2018) The majority of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church's clergy will remain faithful to the canonical church, though there might be few isolated cases of joining the Ukrainian non-canonical church, Alexander Volkov, the spokesman for Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, said on Monday.
"The absolute majority of the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church supported, support and will support their Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is their maternal church that gave them birth, cheirotonia [the laying on of hands].
I am convinced that any treachery of the clergy is out of question, and if, God forbid, we hear about some single, isolated cases of this kind, it will certainly cause deepest regret and sorrow," Volkov told a press conference at the International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya.
The clergyman noted that he was ready to express "the strongest belief that the overwhelming majority of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church's clergy will remain faithful to the canonic Orthodox church."
