Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office Summons Poroshenko for Questioning - Reports

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has invited outgoing President Petro Poroshenko to testify as a witness as part of the ongoing investigation into the mass murders committed during the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests in Kiev, local media reported on Monday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2019) The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has invited outgoing President Petro Poroshenko to testify as a witness as part of the ongoing investigation into the mass murders committed during the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests in Kiev, local media reported on Monday.

Poroshenko is going to be questioned on Tuesday. He is also expected to sign a summary of his questioning from November 2016, the Ukrainian news agency reported, citing its sources.

Serhiy Gorbatyuk, the head of the special investigations department of the Prosecutor General's Office, has reportedly confirmed that Poroshenko was summoned for the new round of questioning, but the exact time of the interrogation remains unknown.

From November 21, 2013, to February 22, 2014, over 100 people died in violent clashes on Kiev's Maidan Nezalezhnosti square, according to the Ukrainian Health Ministry. The investigation into the deaths is still underway.

During his presidential campaign this year, Poroshenko said that he had personally helped move the bodies of the victims out of the square during the protests and provided medical aid to injured persons. Witnesses from the demonstrations questioned his claims, saying that Poroshenko seldom took part in them.
