Ukrainian Ships Undertook Provocative Actions in Sea of Azov on October 24 - Russian FSB

A month before the Kerch Strait incident, Ukrainian ships attempted a provocation in the Sea of Azov on October 24, Vice Adm. Alexei Volsky, the first deputy head of the Russian Security Service's (FSB) coast guard department, said on Saturday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 08th December, 2018) A month before the Kerch Strait incident, Ukrainian ships attempted a provocation in the Sea of Azov on October 24, Vice Adm. Alexei Volsky, the first deputy head of the Russian Security Service's (FSB) coast guard department, said on Saturday.

"One month prior to the events in question - on October 24 - another provocative step was made by Ukraine when two Ukrainian Navy armored boats, Lubnyi and Kremenchug, went to convoy a ship under the Bulgarian flag, which left the port of Mariupol, to the Kerch Strait," Volsky said at a briefing at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.

During the convoying, the Ukrainian ships demonstratively readied their artillery systems for combat and repeatedly threatened over the radio to fire at Russian Border Guard vessels, he added.

"It should be noted that Russian Border Guard ships did not issue a single threat to fire at the boats of the Ukrainian Border Service and Navy," Volsky stressed.
