UN Chief Expresses Wish To China's Xi For More Cooperation On Climate, Rights - Statement

UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th May, 2021) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday held a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which he expressed a wish for strengthened cooperation between the world body� and Beijing on issues that include climate change and human rights, the United Nations Office of the Spokesperson said in a statement.
"Mr. Guterres expressed his appreciation for the Chinese support to the United Nations and multilateralism," the statement said. "The Secretary-General also expressed the wish for enhanced cooperation between the United Nations and the People's Republic of China in all the pillars of the Organization's work - Peace and Security, Sustainable Development, including Climate Change and Biodiversity, and Human Rights.

During the conversation, Guterres expressed the commitment to the success of the COVAX facility and the establishment of a global vaccination plan, the statement said.
Guterres outlined his commitment to ensuring that the Biodiversity COP 15 in the Chinese city of Kunming and the Climate COP26 in Glasgow will be a success.
The UN Secretary-General also congratulated Xi on the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party in 2021.
