UN Chief To Visit India On October 1-4 - New Delhi

NEW DELHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will pay a visit to India on October 1-4, the Indian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, accompanied by a [six] member delegation, would be visiting India from October 1-4, 2018 at the invitation of External Affairs Minister [Sushma Swaraj]," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the talks with Guterres would "focus on a range of multilateral and regional issues as well as explore ways to strengthen India's growing engagement with the United Nations.

The UN chief will also take part in the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention on October 2, which will open the leader of Indian independence movement's 150th birth anniversary celebrations.

During the visit, Guterres will also attend the joint inaugural ceremony of the First Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA), 2nd RE-INVEST Conference and Energy Ministers Meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association of States (IORA) member countries in New Delhi.
