UNITED NATIONS, United States, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th August, 2016) - The UN Security Council will discuss rising tensions in Crimea on Thursday after Russia accused Kiev of plotting to wage attacks in the disputed peninsula. Ukraine, a non-permanent council member, requested the urgent talks that will be held during a closed meeting.
Tensions soared after Ukraine put its military on alert on Thursday and Russia also planned measures to step up security in the territory that Moscow annexed in 2014. Russia's security agency on Wednesday announced it had thwarted "terrorist attacks" in Crimea by Ukrainian military intelligence and beaten back an armed assault, claims Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko dismissed as "senseless and cynical."
