UN Envoy For Libya Considers Palermo Conference For Libya Success

The Conference for Libya in Italy's Palermo has been a success and an "important milestone," Ghassan Salame, the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya and UN Special Representative for the country, said at a press conference at the end of the conference on Tuesday.

PALERMO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) The Conference for Libya in Italy's Palermo has been a success and an "important milestone," Ghassan Salame, the head of the UN Support Mission in Libya and UN Special Representative for the country, said at a press conference at the end of the conference on Tuesday.

"I do consider this conference as a success and as an important milestone in our common struggle to bring security, prosperity to the Libyan people ... This is a conference where I saw a much louder sound of unity in the international community, supporting the UN action plan, supporting action on the political and security field in Libya," Salame said.

The UN special representative added that the upcoming National Libyan Conference planned for early 2019 was "made easier" by the Palermo event.

"I got a clear commitment by those Libyans present here that they will attend it," Salame said.
