Idriss Jazairy, the UN special rapporteur on the negative impact of the unilateral coercive measures, told Sputnik that Iran would like him to visit the country to assess the impact of the United States' economic restriction
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th March, 2019) Idriss Jazairy, the UN special rapporteur on the negative impact of the unilateral coercive measures, told Sputnik that Iran would like him to visit the country to assess the impact of the United States' economic restrictions.
"I am intending to visit Iran but there is a problem there because there is also a special rapporteur specialized on Iran, who has not been given access to Iran. And we usually coordinate between special rapporteurs and I hope that a solution could be found so that I can go there as soon as possible.
As the Iranian authorities have emphasized that they would like me to come," Jazairy said.
The official expressed regret that Tehran had not found "a solution to receive" the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Javaid Rehman, or at least to secure "his not objecting strongly to my coming" before his own.
"Because we all work special rapporteurs in spirit of consensus, we don't undercut one another in our work," he clarified.
