UN Ready To Assist DR Congo After Boat Accident - Spokesman

UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th April, 2019) The United Nations is ready to provide assistance to the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after a boat capsized in the northwestern part of the country, the UN Office of the Spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The UN is ready to help with the response, as requested," the spokesman's office said via Twitter.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres offered his condolences to DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and expressed solidarity with the Central African country, the statement added.
On Monday, a boat transporting passengers on Lake Kivu tipped over, leaving three people dead and 150 others missing, local media reports said. At least 30 people were rescued after the accident, according to the news website africanews.
Local authorities have reportedly not yet determined the cause of the accident.
