UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th March, 2019) The United Nations has appealed to obtain $282 million for the relief response in Mozambique I the next quarter after the country was hit by tropical cyclone Idai, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock told said in a briefing on Monday.

"We are appealing for $282 million for the Mozambique response for the next three months," Lowcock told reporters.

Lowcock explained the funds the United Nations seeks would be used to help people in the region with health, water, sanitation, hygiene and education-related supplies, as well as to provide food security and livelihood.

The funding that the United Nations receives at present is surpassed by the required resources just for Mozambique alone, and the world organization appeals to donors to be generous and supporting.

On March 15, cyclone Idai hit Mozambique and then continued to neighboring Zimbabwe and Malawi, triggering floods and landfalls as well as causing multiple casualties.
