WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) More than 1,000 families have left the Uruzgan and Ghazni provinces in Afghanistan since in the past four days after renewed violence in the area, United Nations Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
"Our humanitarian colleagues tell us that more than 1,000 families have been displaced in Afghanistan's Uruzgan and Ghazni provinces following an escalation of the conflict there since the 10th of November," Haq said.
Haq explained that as a result of limited access to the area, the United Nations lacks information about the impact of the fighting in the two districts and cannot verify the number of civilians killed in the clashes.
The United Nations continues to urge all parties to the conflict in Afghanistan to respect their obligations under international law, Haq said.
On Sunday, local media reported that at least 25 people died and 17 others sustained injuries in an attack that the Taliban movement carried out in the eastern-central Afghan province of Ghazni.
The Taliban attack led to protests in the country's capital, Kabul, where hundreds of Afghans reportedly took to the streets to urge the government to take measures and oust the militants from the area.
