UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) The UN Security Council should respond to Iran's launch from Syria of a medium-range missile into Israel and impose new sanctions against the country, Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said during a council meeting.
"The European Union has taken a crucial step forward by imposing new sanctions against Iran," Danon said on Tuesday. "It is now the Council's turn to take a leap."
According to Danon, Iran spends $7 billion on support for terrorism in the middle East every year and plans to open a fourth front in the West Bank against Israel.
The ambassador said the three fronts are the Gaza Strip, Syria, and Lebanon.
Danon also urged the Security Council to recognize Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations and to impose sanctions against them as well.
On Sunday, Israeli air defenses intercepted a rocket that was fired at the northern Golan Heights on the border with Syria. As a response to the attempted missile attack, the Israeli military has conducted strikes on Iranian military facilities based in Syria.
