UPDATE - Death Toll From Northern California Wildfire Rises to 71 - Police

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th November, 2018) The US authorities have recovered the remains of eight more people killed in northern California's deadly wildfire which brings the death toll from the blaze to 71, Butte county Sheriff Kory Honea said.

Previous figures put the death toll at 63.

"An additional eight human remain were recovered ... today. That brings the total number of human remains located and collected at this point to 71," Honea said at a press conference broadcast on the Butte county Fire Department's Facebook page.

Seven bodies were found in the town of Paradise, which was fully wiped out by the fire, while one body was recovered in the Magalia area, according to the sheriff.

"Of the 71 human remains that we have found, we have tentatively identified 58 of those individuals," the sheriff added.

Honea noted that over 1,000 people had been reported missing after the blaze. The sheriff noted, however, that this was "raw data" noting that Names might appear twice or three times in the list of unaccounted for individuals, while confirming every name in the list will require additional time.

California has been struggling with several huge fires, which have already destroyed over 8,000 structures, since last week. One of the blazes, the so-called Camp Fire, raging in northern California, has been dubbed by many as the most destructive fire in the state's history.
