Russian Ambassador, North Korea's Senior Official Discuss Law Enforcement Cooperation

Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora and the counselor in North Korea's Ministry of People's Security, Ri Song Chol, discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the law enforcement area, the Russian Embassy said on Wednesday

VLADIVOSTOK/TOKYO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora and the counselor in North Korea's Ministry of People's Security, Ri Song Chol, discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the law enforcement area, the Russian Embassy said on Wednesday.

"Expanding contacts in the law enforcement area has become the key topic of talks between Ambassador Matsegora and Counselor in North Korea's Ministry of People's Security Ri Song Chol, that took place on January 22," the embassy said in a statement on Facebook.

The statement comes after Ri's visit to Moscow in late December, where he met with the leadership of the Russian Interior Ministry.

During the visit, Russian law enforcement officers shared with their North Korean counterparts the experience that they gained during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, according to the embassy.

"Russian policemen have shared with their Korean colleagues the experience they gained during the World Cup, when dozens of thousands of [football] fans and tourists visited our country," the statement read.

The embassy added that Russia's experience was particularly interesting to North Korea, since "large-scale construction of a range of big tourist clusters designed for foreign guests reception" was underway in the country.

Matsegora and Ri have also exchanged suggestions concerning the schedule of Russian and North Korean delegations' visits, and have voiced commitment to promote implementation of existing agreements.

The World Cup was held in 11 cities across Russia from June 14 to July 15. Over 3 million fans attended the World Cup matches. Russian intelligence services have prevented a number of terror attacks during the tournament.
