The US Air Force has awarded a $330Mln contract to maintain the E-8C Surveillance Target Attack Radar System for a one-year period beginning November 1, the defense contractor Northrop Grumman said in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th November, 2018) The US Air Force has awarded a $330Mln contract to maintain the E-8C Surveillance Target Attack Radar System for a one-year period beginning November 1, the defense contractor Northrop Grumman said in a press release on Monday.

"Northrop Grumman will provide program management, engineering technical support, aircrew and maintenance training, supply chain and spares management, technical data and publications, program depot maintenance and overall customer support," the release said. "The integrated total systems support contract covers TSSR [total system support responsibility] Period Year 19, which began Nov.

1, 2018 and concludes Oct. 31, 2019."

The E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System, or Joint stars, is an airborne battle management, command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform, in which an E-8C aircraft collects and relays real time information on enemy ground forces to US Army and Marine Corps ground stations.

The most prominent external feature of the E-8C aircraft is a 27-foot long, canoe-shaped radome under the forward fuselage that houses the 24-foot, side-looking phased array antenna, according to the release.
