US Air Strike In Somalia Kills 8 Al-Shabaab Terrorists - AFRICOM

The US military conducted an air strike in Somalia killing eight terrorists of Al-Shabaab, which has sworn allegiance to the Al-Qaeda terrorist group (banned in Russia), the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said in a press release on Saturday.

"To support the Federal Government of Somalia's continued efforts to degrade al-Shabaab, U.S.

forces conducted a precision airstrike targeting al-Shabaab militants in the vicinity of Gandarshe, Somalia, on December 15, 2018. We currently assess this airstrike killed eight (8) militants with no civilians involved," the release said.

The US military said the airstrike had been coordinated with the government of Somalia.

Al-Shabaab emerged in Somalia in 2006 and has been responsible for numerous terror attacks throughout the region. The terror group is known for enforcing a radical version of Sharia law in territories under its control.
