US Ambassador Calls Planned Vote On Kosovo Army 'Historic'

US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Kosnett has welcomed a planned parliamentary vote on Friday that will transform the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into a regular army.

BELGRADE (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Kosnett has welcomed a planned parliamentary vote on Friday that will transform the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into a regular army.

"Tomorrow's vote on KSF transition is a historic one for Kosovo. The U.S.

will support the professional development & organizational evolution of KSF, which must play a positive role for Kosovo & the region," he tweeted.

The motion has been backed by all ethnic Albanian parties in the breakaway region, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008.

Serbia continues to see Kosovo as its province, as does Russia and several other countries. Earlier this week, Belgrade called on the NATO-led international peacekeepers to stop the vote, which it said violated international laws.
