The Army has inked a contract for 18 truck-mounted High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers for $218 million, the defense contractor Lockheed Martin announced in a press release on Tuesday.
WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) The Army has inked a contract for 18 truck-mounted High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers for $218 million, the defense contractor Lockheed Martin announced in a press release on Tuesday.
"The contract calls for the delivery of 18 HIMARS launchers and associated equipment by December 2020," the release said.
HIMARS consists of a launcher loader module and fire control system mounted on a five-ton truck chassis, the release explained. An armored cab provides additional protection to three crew members that operate the system.
The units are transportable in C-130 and larger aircraft for rapid deployment, the release added.
