WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th May, 2019) The US authorities have left the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, without arresting activists, who had been living there for several weeks, trying to protect the building from being taken over by supporters of the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the site.
On late Monday, the US authorities broke into the Venezuelan Embassy. Despite that four activists are remaining in the building.
"Police, who had cut the chains on the front door, seem to have back out. They have stepped back, they put the ties back to the front door, the people are still inside [the embassy] .
.. They have not been arrested. That is confirmed," Brian Becker, director of the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) group, told Sputnik.
The Venezuelan diplomats left the embassy at the request of the US authorities in late April. However, the US activists occupied the building in order to protect it from being seized by the US authorities and Guaido's supporters.
Incumbent Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro thanked the activists for protection of the building.
