US Awards $879Mln For ICBM Reentry System Support - Pentagon

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) US defense contractor Lockheed Martin won nearly $880 million for an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) reentry system sustainment and engineering package, the Defense Department said in a press release.
"Lockheed Martin Space, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, has been awarded an $879,000,000 [contract] for [Minuteman III] Reentry System/Reentry Vehicles (RS/RV) subsystem support," the release said on Tuesday.
The Minuteman III ICBM is currently the US Air Force's only current operational land-based strategic nuclear missile and can reach targets more than 6,000 miles away.
The contract provides for development, production, and sustainment engineering and procurement of the Minuteman III RS/RV subsystem and related support equipment, the release added.
