US Boosts Indonesia Quake Recovery Aid By $3Mln, Continues C-130 Airlift - State Dept.

The United States will continue to airlift relief supplies to earthquake and tsunami victims on Indonesia's Sulawesi island with C-130 planes with $3 million in additional aid that was announced by the US Department of State on Friday.
WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th October, 2018) The United States will continue to airlift relief supplies to earthquake and tsunami victims on Indonesia's Sulawesi island with C-130 planes with $3 million in additional aid that was announced by the US Department of State on Friday.
"The United States is providing an additional $3 million in assistance through @USAID & will continue C-130 airlift to support the disaster response in Central #Sulawesi, Indonesia, bringing total committed US assistance in response to this crisis to nearly $11 million," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert stated via Twitter.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Sulawesi in Central Indonesia on September 28, followed by tsunami waves more than 20 feet high that smashed island at speeds approaching 500 miles per hour, according to published reports.
More than 70,000 homes were destroyed, with the latest death toll estimates approaching 2,000.
