US, Chile Presidents To Discuss Venezuela, Energy, Cybersecurity - White House

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) US President Donald Trump will meet his Chilean counterpart Sebastian Pinera in Washington on September 28 to discuss a range of issues including the crisis in Venezuela, energy projects and cybersecurity, the White House said in a statement on Friday.

"President Donald J. Trump will welcome President Sebastián Piñera of Chile to the White House for a working visit on September 28, 2018. The leaders expect to discuss a shared commitment to pro-growth policies, combating corrupt and illicit networks, strategic partnerships in energy and cyber security, and efforts to restore democracy in Venezuela," the statement said.

Both presidents are committed to the strong strategic partnership between their two nations and to strengthening security in the Western Hemisphere, the White House added.

Venezuela has been engulfed in a deep political crisis, with hyperinflation and widespread food shortages sparking mass protests. As result, Venezuelans are seeking asylum in other countries, with over 2 million people having left the country since 2014, according to the United Nations.
