WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) US citizens in France should avoid the city of Strasbourg because of an ongoing security incident, the US Embassy in Paris said after several people were reported to have been shot dead and several others injured by a gunman.
"Embassy calls on Americans to avoid area," the US Embassy in Paris said on its web site on Tuesday.
Most recent local reports, citing police sources, claim four people were killed in the incident near the city's Christmas market. Twelve people were injured, with six left in serious condition
The embassy called on US citizens to avoid the area, seek secure shelter in the vicinity, monitor local media for updates and notify friends and family of their safety.
Some two hours after the attack, elite police cornered the suspect and shots were fired, a source close to the operation said. French media reported the assailant was holed up in a store on the Rue Epinal. French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said the 29-year-old suspected gunman was known to police as a security risk.
