The United States is considering loosening travel restrictions for US aid workers to deliver humanitarian relief to North Korea amid stalled nuclear talks between the two countries, media reported on Wednesday.
US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun, who arrived in Seoul on Wednesday for a four-day visit, said that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo directed him to consider easing the travel ban, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The review of the ban comes as talks about a denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula have stalled, the report stated.
The possibility of humanitarian aid is believed to be an attempt to get North Korea's diplomats back to the negotiating table.
Last month, North Korea called off planned nuclear talks with Secretary Pompeo in New York.
North Korean state media has criticized the United States for keeping aid workers from visiting the country, according to reports.
US President Donald Trump has been considering a second summit with North's leader Kim Jong Un to speed up the stalling denuclearization. Trump's National Security Advisor John Bolton said the summit could take place in January or February.
