WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th November, 2018) A US court decided to resume the detention hearing in the case of Russian citizen Bogdana Osipova, detained in the United States on charges of kidnapping her own children, on Tuesday, Osipova's lawyer Alexey Tarasov told Sputnik.
"The detention hearing on Bogdana Osipova took place in the state of Kansas on Friday. It will actually continue on Tuesday because it was not finished," Tarasov said on Friday.
The first part of the hearing had continued for more than three hours until the court closing, Tarasov noted.
"Today, we heard Bogdana herself who was the witness. There will be a closing argument by the defense and the prosecution on Tuesday," he said.
The lawyer has emphasized that the defense asks the court to release Osipova on bail, adding that the judge has not made a decision on this issue yet.
Osipova faces 83 years in prison and up to $1.25 million in fines. She is known in the United States by her married name Bogdana Mobley. Initially, US prosecutors charged her with internationally kidnapping her two daughters after her husband, Brian Mobley, filed for divorce and was granted full custody of the children. Osipova became a naturalized US citizen in 2004 and went to Russia 10 years later while being pregnant with her third child.
