US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan will join President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Friday for talks with Caribbean leaders on Venezuela, the State Department announced in a press release
"Today, Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan will join President Donald J. Trump as he welcomes Caribbean leaders to a meeting at Mar-a-Lago," the release said on Friday. "The Deputy Secretary will support the President in his discussions on how best to support the Venezuelan people as they strive for democracy, as well as future engagement in the region under the US-Caribbean 2020 strategy.
"
The State Department noted that leaders from the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, the Republic of Haiti, Jamaica and Saint Lucia will take part in the meeting.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders revealed on Wednesday that Trump would host leaders of the Caribbean in Mar-a-Lago to discuss a range of topics including China and Venezuela.
Trump is expected to highlight potential opportunities for energy investment in the Caribbean region, Sanders said. Trump's meeting will also reaffirm the US relationship and commitment to the region, according to Sanders.
