WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th April, 2019) Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report of his investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia collusion shows that US President Donald Trump obstructed justice, US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said in a press release on Thursday.
"Even in its incomplete form, the Mueller report outlines disturbing evidence that President Trump engaged in obstruction of justice and other misconduct," Nadler said in the release.
Nadler also said Congress must hold Trump accountable for his actions.
In addition, Nadler said US Attorney General William Barr has undermined the Justice Department by excluding findings in his summary of Mueller's report he sent to Congress in order to protect Trump.
Nadler said he will issue a subpoena to receive a fuller report of Mueller's findings with less redactions.
The congressman also requested that Mueller testify before the Judiciary Committee by May 23.
Earlier on Thursday, the Justice Department released Mueller's report with findings into any interaction the Trump presidential campaign, including Trump himself, may have had with Russia in the 2016 presidential race. The report contains a number of categories that have been redacted in order not to obstruct ongoing prosecutions and impinge on privacy and reputation of sources.
Russia has repeatedly refuted any involvement in the US political system, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the election loss of Trump's opponent as well as deflect public attention from actual instances of election fraud and corruption.
